I’ve been sharing with you all that we have decided to rent, which means we don’t have a lot of space or storage. That doesn’t mean our home can’t be fun and decorative. If you’re like me, you don’t want to spend a lot of money on things you won’t use a lot. For years, this held me back from decorating and making our home homey and cozy. I’m taking a new approach that I think so many of you all will appreciate. I’m going to show how to have a decorated, cozy home without spending a lot of time, money and energy. All of my decor is simple, cheap and can (mostly) be done with stuff you already have! I want to show you this simple fall decor that you can make today and will last you all the way through Thanksgiving.
Remember that I am here to show you inspiration! You don’t have to do exactly as I do! Here are some tips on what I mean:
- Container: You can you use any container for this simple fall decor. If you have a glass jar like this, great! If not, what else do you have lying around that you could use? Arrange your pumpkins on a cheese board. Drape a pretty dish towel in a colander and put your pumpkins in there. Use a woven or metal basket. If you aren’t sure or want to get something like you see here, check out the similar items below.
- Contents: You can use pumpkins you have leftover from Halloween decorations. I used these Tiger pumpkins but anything that fits in your chosen container will work. You can use Jack-be-little, Baby Boos or munchkins. Gourds would look nice! Something that is both fall AND Christmassy are pine cones and you can grab them outside! Acorns, leaves and other greenery is really pretty and can be found outside too.
You can leave your simple fall canister in the kitchen, like I did, put it on a shelf or use it as a centerpiece. If you make a fall canister, I’d love to see it! Tag me on Instagram!
I have some fun ideas for how to use this jar for Christmas decorations, too. Follow along to see! If you want to see more simple, fall decor, check out the little fall nook I made here.

Simple ideas that are both cute and practical. I have one, yup, one fall decoration and it’s a 1/2 pumpkin made of metal with a couple of metal fall leaves next to it. I used to decorate more when the kids were little. Now it’s just hubby and I and he’s not one to care much about holiday decorations with the exception of Christmas 🙂

True! Oh, man, not yet. I used to listen to Christmas music early on my way to work but now that I’m retired, I haven’t yet started listening. Soon though!
