I hope everyone’s Christmas decor and planning are coming along beautifully and smoothly! One of my favorite things to do is bring the beauty of nature indoors. Whether it’s spring, winter or summer, trimming and decorating the home with nature’s beauty is something I love to do because it’s pretty, and it’s free! If you’re like me and don’t want to spend lots and lots of money every year getting your home decorated for Christmas, try some free Christmas decor!
Bringing the outdoors in was a lot easier when we lived in a home with outdoor space. I was known to constantly be trimming bushes to bring flowers and clippings in to make pretty bouquets and wreaths. There is something zen about having this natural beauty inside! Now that we live back in the city (and it would be frowned upon to trim city trees) there are still ways around it, especially during Christmas time! To me, there is nothing better than free Christmas decor.
Do you take home your tree trimmings with you? You totally should. Bonus, you can stop by your local Lowe’s or Home Depot, and they will often have a bin of free trimmings you can take. I always use my tree trimmings to decorate my mantel. This year, I put some extra branches in vases around the home. I also like to use them as a centerpiece on a table by laying them down the table runner.
Create your DIY Christmas decorations with all of your trimmings and if are still pressed, you can head to your local green house or garden center who will most likely be selling winter greens for an affordable price. It’s so nice using fresh and free greens when you can. Plus, the smell is amazing!
I LOVE decorating my house for Christmas, but I’m also always on the lookout for affordable Christmas decor. If you’re like me, I buy a few new decorations every year. Everywhere else in our home is decked with free holiday trimmings. I hope you find inspiration in this post and know that your Christmas decor can be beautiful for FREE!

I love this idea! I had no clue that Lowe’s and Home Depot gave away the extra tree trimmings until recently. What a good tip! Everyone can enjoy saving a little extra money this time of year. 🙂

You had me at FREE! I love fresh greens; however my wood stove dries them out super fast and then they get prickly and hurt to remove. Any ideas on how to keep fresh greens “fresh”

Interesting! You could run a humidifier or grab tree trimmings from softer trees like a Douglas Fir or Balasm or Fraser fir!

I kept the trimmings from our real tree last year. It was fun to find creative ways to use them to decorate the rest of the house for Christmas. You can’t beat free! I love how you combined them with the candles!
